Borussia Dortmund hand Atletico Madrid a hammering

With Paco Alcacer and Manuel Akanji out injured, many expected Borussia Dortmund to struggle against Atletico Madrid when the two sides met in the Champions League group stage. But what followed was one of Borussia Dortmund’s best team performances over the years and a result that will live long in the memory of the fans.

The Black and Yellows blew away the mighty Atletico with a performance of the highest quality as they handed Diego Simeone his worst defeat during his reign as Atletico Madrid boss.

After a cagey start to the game, Axel Witsel opened the scoring with a deflected strike from the edge of the box in the 39th minute. Raphael Guerreiro came off the bench and finished off a brilliant team move to double Dortmund’s advantage. Jadon Sancho then tapped home Borussia Dortmund’s third, before Guerreiro found the net once again, capitalizing on some poor Atletico defending.

It was Favre-ball played to perfection as Borussia Dortmund allowed Atletico to dominate possession before hurting them with their devastating counter attacks. From the goalkeeper to the forwards, everyone played a crucial part in this win and it was a truly incredible result for the Black and Yellows.s
