Thorgan Hazard

Probably top of many fans’ lists, Thorgan Hazard presents an interesting and enticing option Borussia Dortmund could go after. Rumors have begun to swirl around the Belgian forward, with some of those rumors stating that Die Schwarzgelben have already approached Borussia Mönchengladbach and held talks regarding the potential of a transfer. Despite there being no agreement on a fee as of yet, the prospect of having Thorgan Hazard in a Dortmund kit is an exciting prospect.

Die Fohlen’s talisman has put up some impressive numbers this season, having scored 9 and assisted 6 in the Bundesliga at the halfway point of the season. Hazard has been responsible for an average of 2.8 key passes per game in the league this year, creating chances aplenty for his teammates to pounce on.

Hazard’s playstyle is one that I think would fit Dortmund nicely. His ability on the ball and ability to play on the counter are his major strengths. Hazard is also capable of making runs and creating space for his teammates. In a system such as the one Lucien Favre has deployed Dortmund in thus far this season, I think Hazard would fit perfectly.

Hazard has undoubtedly been key to Gladbach’s success this year, with Die Fohlen currently sitting in 3rd place. It is no wonder that Lucien Favre is said to admire the Belgian forward, and why Borussia Dortmund and other clubs such as Liverpool have been linked with him. But it is precisely this success that makes me think getting Gladbach to sell us their prized asset midway through the season will be extremely difficult.

Having struck up a fine partnership with Alassane Pléa, it would take a hefty fee to pry Hazard from Gladbach’s clutches. But Borussia Dortmund will have the money from the Pulisic sale, and the prospect to play under Lucien Favre once again might be too good to turn down for the Belgian international.
