Jovane Cabral

Jovane Cabral isn’t a player Borussia Dortmund have been linked with, but he is certainly a player that could fit the bill as a potential Pulisic replacement for Die Schwarzgelben. The young talented winger currently plies his trade for Sporting Lisbon, but the winger from Cape Verde has attracted attention from both Barcelona and Real Madrid, with some dubbing the youngster as the next Cristiano Ronaldo.

So far this season, the pacey winger has scored twice and put 3 assists on the board in 11 appearances in Liga Nos. As of the 2018/2019 season, Cabral has played the role of impact substitute for Sporting. In those appearances, he has scored crucial goals and provided assists that have turned losing positions for his team into winning ones. Tom Kundert of Portugoal highlights that Sporting coach Jose Peseiro has harnessed Cabral’s speed and strength masterfully against tiring defenses, with the young winger coming on late in games to often put games to bed.

Kundert also emphasizes Cabral’s “intuitive nature”, with the young winger knowing exactly what move to make, when to pass, and when to dribble. With the aforementioned links to Barcelona and Real Madrid as examples to keep in mind, I fear the rest of Europe may come calling for Cabral very soon.

With regards to a transfer to Dortmund, the price tag of such a move is relatively small as of now, with Cabral’s valuation currently standing at 2.7 million pounds, but with prices not often what they seem in today’s market, I would expect it to cost at least 20 million pounds for Sporting to part with their diamond in the rough.

This would be more than affordable for Dortmund considering they just became 64 million euros richer. On top of this, Cabral would easily fill the role of impact substitute, making sure that players such as Raphaël Guerreiro, Jadon Sancho and Jacob Bruun Larsen wouldn’t have to lose time on the pitch. He would be an option for the future without disrupting the development and playing time of the starters we currently have in fine form.
