Borussia Dortmund enjoyed a near perfect first of the season. Lucien Favre’s side only lost two matches across all competitions prior to the end of the year. As such, there is plenty to celebrate on a statistical and fan level. So let us take a look at the first half of the season.

Here are the Borussia Dortmund Midseason Awards.

Biggest Surprise: Jadon Sancho

Borussia Dortmund as a whole is known for placing trust in youth. Dortmund currently have many talented players in their ranks. Only 10 players in the senior squad are aged 26 or older. Dortmund’s young players have defied expectations by showing maturity beyond their age so far, but no player has done a better job of it than Jadon Sancho.

Sancho swapped England for Germany as a 17 year old last season. And, while many expected him to enjoy a breakthrough campaign this season, no one expected the winger to have such a big impact. Several players could make a stake for being the biggest surprise, but Sancho is setting the game of football on fire for the Black and Yellows.

The England International has a beautiful first touch and dances the ball around the opposition for fun at times. His eye for goal is also more keen than others in the same age bracket. Sancho has seven goals and ten assists across all competitions as of now and he will only get better from here. He may be one for the future, but he is also making his mark in the present.
