Thomas Delaney

Thomas Delaney was one of the first signings for Borussia Dortmund this past summer, he arrived from Werder Bremen for a fee of €20 million after some two impressive seasons in the Bundesliga. The Danish international was brought in with the aim to provide some strength and steel to the midfield, and he has done exactly that since his arrival.

The 27 year old has formed a strong partnership in the middle of the park with Axel Witsel, giving Borussia Dortmund the balance between a great defending and quick transitions from defense to attack. Delaney’s presence in midfield has been hugely important, especially in big games. And while he may not be the most dynamic of midfielders, he does his role well, allowing Witsel to get forward and join the attacks.

Delaney’s only goal for Borussia Dortmund was a massive one, as it opened the scoring in their victory over rivals Schalke. In addition, the Dane also has three assists to his name in 20 appearances in all competitions. Delaney has the necessary skills to become a leader in Lucien Favre’s team and to help Dortmund in their bid to win the Bundesliga title.
