2018 was the year of Jadon Sancho. The wonderkid took the Bundesliga by storm and made the world take notice of the bags of potential he has in him. Now he is raring to go for the second half of the season and wants to make history with Borussia Dortmund.
Aged just 17, Jadon Sancho left English giants Manchester City for Borussia Dortmund in search of more playing time in August 2017. Fast forward to 18 months later, Jadon Sancho is one of the first names on Borussia Dortmund’s teamsheet and is also an England international. He is considered to be one of the best teenagers in the world and is also being used as an example by many English youngsters who are looking to make their breakthrough in the first team.
Borussia Dortmund are enjoying one of their best seasons in recent years, and Jadon Sancho has been a major part of their success so far. His seven goals and ten assists in all competitions have put the Black and Yellows in a near ideal position going into the second half of the season.
And Sancho believes that the club’s incredible hinrunde was due to the great team spirit and everyone’s desire to give their 100% in every game.
"Sancho said, “Last season was not our best, we had to improve, we owe it to our fans. It was a stage that we just weren’t at our best – now we are and we’re top of the league. Everyone gives their best, we have a great spirit, everyone is happy, there are many more young players coming in and giving the team new options, which is good.”"
But despite their six point cushion at the top of the table, Sancho is keen not to take the foot of the pedal.
"“Of course we want to continue as before, we are first, but Bayern is only six points behind us and other teams are looking to take points off us, so we have to keep working hard as we have won nothing yet.”"
The 18 year old has also revealed that he has no desire of returning to England anytime soon, despite rumors linking him with a quick return to the Premier League. Instead, he is grateful to Borussia Dortmund and hopes to “continue writing the story together” with the club.
“I just want to play football and I’m getting that opportunity here. I’m happy right now. I’m very grateful to Dortmund for giving me this chance. I want to keep working hard and I’m happy to be a part of this club and want to make history with it.”
"“I have adapted really well and quickly. My family and the club have helped me with that. The atmosphere in the club and also in the stadium is great, and the coach (Lucien Favre) has helped me take the next step this season.”"
Borussia Dortmund are currently in Spain, where they are preparing for the second half of the season. The Black and Yellows return to Bundesliga action on January 19, when they visit RB Leipzig, and Sancho will be looking to pick up right where he left off before the winter break.
