Dortmund have successfully kept Marco Reus fit

One of the highlights up until the winter break is also one of the greatest miracles the club could have asked for up until this point: Marco Reus has been kept injury free. This has surely made many of the Dortmund faithful very happy, considering the club captain’s history on the sidelines. Most have heard the tragic story of how he missed out on Germany’s World Cup winning campaign in Brazil, having sustained an injury in the team’s final friendly before they departed for the tournament. It was the same story two years later as injury concerns prevented Reus from traveling with the German national team to France for Euro 2016.

An year later, an injury in Borussia Dortmund’s DFB cup win in 2017 kept Reus out of Dortmund’s lineup until the winter of 2018. Sufficiently depressed? Good, now we can fully appreciate what Reus has meant to the team this season. As of this Bundesliga campaign, our fully fit captain has contributed 16 goals an 7 assists in all competitions, 11 of those said goals have him sitting very high in the race for the Torjägerkanone this season, only behind the likes of Luka Jovic and Paco Alcacer, the latter of which we’ll get to in a minute.

Marco has flourished in his new role as captain, leading his team by example in both performance and fitness. Whatever magic the medical team has worked to keep our talisman in one piece, I would beg them to continue to do so in the most attentive of fashions.
