Borussia Dortmund have internally decided that they will not let star players join rivals Bayern Munich as they look to become a dominant force in the Bundesliga once again.

Bayern Munich have been known for their strategy of poaching players from rival Bundesliga clubs, especially ones they think could hurt them in the future. Hoffenheim and Schalke have fallen foul of this tactic in recent years. And a few years back, Bayern managed to take the spine of a Borussia Dortmund team that had just won back to back league titles.

The Bavarians triggered Mario Götze’s release clause of €37 million in 2013, before signing Robert Lewandowski on a free transfer an year later. They then signed Mats Hummels in 2016, and Borussia Dortmund have not won a league title since.

Now that the Black and Yellows are on the up again, they have decided that they will not be selling any of their prized assets to their direct competitors. According to SportBILD, Borussia Dortmund want to become a permanent threat to Bayern and compete for the Bundesliga title every season. And to avoid another Lewandowski scenario, they will choose to sell players before they enter the final year of their contract.

Borussia Dortmund sold Pulisic (who had 18 months left on his contract) to Chelsea earlier this month for 64 million euros. Bayern Munich were interested in signing the American international, but the BVB bosses made it clear to him that he could not join the Bavarians.
