The Hakimi – Guerreiro Effect:

A partnership I’ve been harping on since the game against Werder Bremen, the dynamic duo of Raphaël Guerreiro and Achraf Hakimi once again impressed against Hannover. Both players managed to get on the score sheet, with Hakimi opening the scoring in the 23rd minute. After a beautiful 1-2 with Guereirro , Hakimi slotted home past Hannover keeper Michael Esser. Guerreiro found the back of the net in the 66th minute, courtesy of a deft pass from Marco Reus after the captain capitalized on a mistake made by the Hannover defense.

Hakimi continues to play his position at left back superbly, breaking up plays in defense and then bombing forward to make marauding runs and create chances. On the defensive end of things, Hakimi made several crucial tackles that frustrated Hannover’s attack. However, It was in the attack that Hakimi made his largest contribution to Dortmund’s result in this game. Aside from the goal, Hakimi set up Reus for the Dortmunds second goal in the 59th minute. Hakimi was able to steal the ball from Hannover’s Miiko Albornoz close to goal. After which, he squared the ball to Marco Reus who pulled off a very cheeky effort on goal to put the hosts further into the lead. Guerreiro played an immense role in this game as well. Assisting Hakimi to open the scoring against a defensive opponent helped Dortmund open the floodgates in the second half. I am very happy to see that Lucien Favre has taken note of how well these two play together, and is exploiting this partnership to the maximum of his player’s ability.
