Dortmund Hammer Hannover: Key talking points from Borussia Dortmund’s 5-1 win over Hannover
Łukasz Piszczek’s strong season continues:
During the summer before the season began, many believed that it was time for Dortmund to start looking for Łukasz Piszczek’s replacement. The former Polish international is well over the wrong end of 30 years old. However, at 33, Piszczek has surprised many with how strong of a showig he has had this campaign. The game against Hannover emphasized Piszczek’s importance to Dortmund’s success this season. Defensively, Piszczek was very solid, smothering anything Hannover threw at him down his flank. His major contributions came in the form of his forward play. Much like his counterpart on the left, Piszczek showed how dangerous he can be with his attacking ability. Early on in the game, Piszczek took out 3 of Hannover’s defender’s with a sublime through ball to Reus, who almost managed to open the scoring. The ball hit the post in the end, but it was a massive chance created by Piszczek. He also set Guerreiro up for a chance in the 39th minute. Dortmund’s long serving right back sent a lovely ball in for Guerreiro from a free kick. Guererrio made great contact with the ball and forced a great save from Michael Lesser to keep it out.
