Dortmund Hammer Hannover: Key talking points from Borussia Dortmund’s 5-1 win over Hannover
Final thoughts and talking points:
While I haven’t spent much time talking about Jadon Sancho today, it would be a disservice to our young star to not give him a mention. His was a performance of top quality, setting up two of the games goals with quality assists. Both Guerreiro and Witsel found the score sheet because of the 18 year olds ability on the ball and fantastic judgement of where to play it. His assist tally has gone up to 9 after todays game and we can only hope he continues to play at this level. If it wasn’t clear already, the hype around Sancho is very real and we should count ourselves lucky to be watching him play in Black and Yellow.
The collision between Thomas Delaney and Marco Reus is worth a mention as well. The two players knocked heads in the first half, which left both of them on the grass. Delaney seemed to come out the more injured party, but thankfully both players were able to play on without any major injury. It is collisions such as this that emphasize how important it is for referee’s to stop play immediately after they take place. While nothing serious came of the collision this time around, Delaney was initially very still after it occurred. This prompted the referee to stop the play, which must be applauded.
Dortmund will go on the road next weekend and face Eintracht Frankfurt. Frankfurt’s attacking trio of Luka Jovic, Sebastian Haller and Ante Rebić have been in fine form, and will prove yet another sturdy test for Dortmund’s title credentials. The win over Hannover will surely give them confidence in their ability to overcome this obstacle as they continue their title challenge.
