Final thoughts and conclusions

Taking in this game as a whole, fans can look at it in two particular ways: The first of which is that while Borussia Dortmund won, their frailties were on display today in key areas that have put them in the position they are in today- trailing Bayern Munich on goal difference. Bayern’s hammering of Mainz today also doesn’t do us much good in the standings.

The other side of this is that Dortmund showed, above all else, that they want this title. The second half resurgence was exhilarating to watch, despite all the missed chances. Wave after wave of attacking play resulted in an “edge of your seat” type of game that showed Dortmund, despite injury blows and Bayern usurping them at the top, are ready to lay it all out on the field until the last game of the season.

It can also be said that Hertha has often been a stumbling block for Dortmund. Games against Berlin have been tight in recent years, and they’ve put this game past them with a crucial win. While it won’t be smooth sailing for Dortmund here on out, Bayern and Gladbach are the only “top tier” teams left for Die Schwarzgelben to face. Bayern, on the other hand, must play Dortmund, Leipzig and a flying Frankfurt team, each of which could prove to be stumbling blocks in their own right. What’s clear is that this Bundesliga season is set to have a stunning finale, with hopefully Dortmund lifting their first league title since the Jürgen Klopp era.
