The final Revierderby of this season has come and gone, and it is certainly one neither Borussia Dortmund nor Schalke fans will forget in a hurry.

Their reasons for remembering this game will be almost as contrasting as their form was coming into the fixture, which makes the 4-2 defeat an even more bitter pill to swallow for the Borussia Dortmund faithful.

In what was a very controversial match, Schalke managed one of the greatest upsets of the season, and perhaps one of the greatest upsets in Revierderby history. It was a game that arguably outshines even the 4-4 draw from last season, especially because of the potential consequences this result will have for both Schalke’s relegation prospects and Dortmund’s title aspirations, and this on its own makes looking at some of the key moments all the more worthwhile, despite my not so small inclination to forget this match ever took place.
