Final thoughts

And so, here we are, with the final game of the season looming. Two points separate Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund in the standings, and there is still a glimmer of hope that Die Schwarzgelben will be able to call themselves Bundesliga champions this year. The circumstances surrounding this budding hope are not ideal, however. Both Bayern and Dortmund will come into the final match day with tricky fixtures at hand.

For Dortmund, a trip to Borussia Mönchengladbach awaits, with Die Fohlen looking to secure Champions League status. Bayern, however, are at home to an Eintracht Frankfurt side fresh off of a penalty defeat to Chelsea in the UEFA Europa League and a 2-0 loss to Mainz. While these results will have had an effect on Frankfurt, they will surely be looking to finish the season off brightly and secure European Football for the club as well.

Frankfurt are one point behind Bayer Leverkusen and Gladbach, and will be hoping Dortmund will be able to do them a favor in beating Gladbach. They will also be hoping Leverkusen drop points on the final day. Dortmund, on the other hand, will be hoping that Frankfurt can somehow manage to beat the Bavarian giants at home. With so many unknowns hinging on the final match day’s results, we can expect a very turbulent and exiting end to the season.
