Julian Weigl

Julian Weigl has been linked with a move away from Dortmund consistently throughout the year after his starting spot was seized by Axel Witsel. He didn’t feature a whole lot in the first half of the season and only featured as a center-back in the second half. It’s understandable for Weigl to be a bit frustrated with his role at this point and could look at pursuing other options.

In my opinion, selling Weigl is a terrible idea. It should only be done if there is no chance of salvaging the situation. He is still one of the best German central midfield talents in the country. Axel Witsel had a great first half of the season and fully deserved his starting role, but Weigl should be used in midfield much more than he was last season.

Weigl and Witsel should ideally have a healthy rotation in the defensive midfield spot allowing them both to be rested when needed throughout the season. Weigl is unquestionably the starter of the future at 23 years old, and should be held onto if possible.
