It’s time for us to take a look at how the Borussia Dortmund players have performed over the course of the full season. In this post we assess the goalkeepers and defenders.

Please note that these ratings are not relative, but are based on specific context for each player, keeping in mind factors such as their age, injuries, past form, standing at the start of the season etc.

Roman Bürki (8.5/10)

After an underwhelming season in which he made quite a few mistakes, Bürki was under pressure going into the season. But he proved his doubters wrong and had an exceptional campaign between the sticks for Borussia Dortmund. The 28 year old made some outstanding stops over the course of the 32 games he played this season, saving his side a lot of points.

His performance against Mainz, where he made nine saves and single handedly prevented his side from conceding an equaliser, was quite easily the highlight of his season.

Marwin Hitz (6/10)

Hitz only featured three times this season, twice in the Bundesliga and once in the Champions League. He made some important saves in the win against Bayern, but his howler against Fortuna Dusseldorf nearly cost Dortmund.

Nonetheless, his arrival certainly had something to do with Bürki’s remarkable upturn in form and he is a reliable, experienced back-up goalkeeper to have in the team.
