Achraf Hakimi (7/10)

Achraf Hakimi was brought on loan to provide cover for Lukasz Piszczek, but ended up looking much more at home at left back. The Moroccan international started the season on the bench, but Marcel Schmelzer’s injury saw him get drafted into the side.

He pretty much became a regular from then on out and his darting runs going forward became a real feature of Borussia Dortmund’s attacking play in the first half of the season. Hakimi ended up getting three goals and seven assists, including three in the 4-0 win over Atletico Madrid.

The young full back had always looked susceptible defensively, but his errors ended up costing his side at crucial moments in the second half of the season. He then suffered a metatarsal injury in March, ending his season prematurely. Still an impressive season overall for the 20 year old, and its something he can build on next season.

Marcel Schmelzer (5/10)

Schmelzer started the season as the first choice left back, but then lost his spot following an injury in September. He only made two starts following his return from injury, and it was clear that Lucien Favre did not trust him to start anymore.

The signing of Nico Schulz means that Schmelzer’s future with the Black and Yellows is now in further doubt. But no matter what, he will always be considered a Borussia Dortmund legend.
