Borussia Dortmund have already bolstered their squad with three new additions this summer, but Hans Joachim Watzke has revealed that more players could arrive in the coming weeks.

The Bundesliga season ended just over a week ago, but Borussia Dortmund have wasted no time in securing their key targets, completing the signings Nico Schulz, Thorgan Hazard and Julian Brandt earlier this week for a combined fee of just 77 million euros. But club CEO Hans Joachim Watzke has revealed that the club are still looking to make more signings as they look to challenge Bayern Munich for the league title once again next season.

"“If you look at the sums, you can see we weren’t wasteful,” Watzke said in an interview with BILD. “We received around €64 million for Christian Pulisic and invested about €10 million net for three new signings – turning one into three. My big compliment goes to our sporting director Michael Zorc.”“We still have ideas [on transfers], but they are not always easy to implement.”"

It has been rumored that the Black and Yellows are in the market for a new striker and a central midfielder. A number of players have been linked with the club in recent weeks including Mario Mandzukic. When asked about the Juventus striker, Watzke did not rule out a move but said that having more strikers lead to “everyone getting weaker.”

"“In football, nothing is ever excluded. And just as I know Mario Mandzukic, he’s a striker with so much ambition that he always wants to play. But [signing him] would mean that all strikers – we have Mario Götze and Paco Alcacer in this position – will get even less playing time. You have to consider that carefully.““The more competition you have in the central striker position, the more you will see that everyone gets weaker. Why have Bayern not signed a real alternative for Lewandowski for years?”"

Watzke also provided an update on Jadon Sancho’s future, declaring that the England international is not on the market and will play for Borussia Dortmund next season. Sancho has attracted the interest of clubs including Manhester United and Real Madrid, but Dortmund have no intention of selling the 19 year old just yet. Watzke also confirmed that new deals will be offered to both Mario Gotze and Raphael Guerreiro, with their contracts expiring at the end of next season.

"“It can be assumed that Jadon will not play more than ten years at BVB. But we have clear agreements about the present. Jadon is not on the market and plays next season guaranteed at Borussia Dortmund.”“I feel that they both [Gotze and Guerreiro] feel very well. We will deal with these two topics in the next few weeks. We want to extend with both.”"

The 59 year old also heaped praise on head coach Lucien Favre and reiterated that the plans are to continue with him and extend his contract over the summer.

"“We are convinced of our line and of Lucien! With the runner-up, he achieved more than we expected. He has finally given the team a clear style of play again. Lucien is the right person for Dortmund. In the second and third year, it will become clear whether we can collect titles together.”"

dark. Next. Five players that could leave Borussia Dortmund this summer

"“We want to become champions. But Bayern are like Mount Everest. You can try to defeat it once – and we want that. I think Germany needs that again soon. But we still know that Bayern will always remain the Mount Everest.”"
