Borussia Dortmund 2018/19 Player Awards
Best Young Player
Borussia Dortmund’s 2018/2019 season was characterized by the huge roles given to young players throughout most of the ride. New arrivals such as Achraf Hakimi and Abdou Diallo were given important roles on the starting XI. They were accompanied by Dan-Axel Zagadou and Jadon Sancho, regular first-team performers who arrived at the club a season earlier. However, it was the latter who would stand out the most. Jadon Sancho should be rightfully awarded the ‘Best Young Player Award’!
But what exactly did Jadon Sancho do to earn this award? Well, the right question should be what didn’t he do?
The young Englishman had a slow start during his first season at Borussia Dortmund, making only a handful of appearances and bagging only one goal and four assists in the Bundesliga. Despite this, the prospect of him becoming an important piece of Dortmund’s offensive unit for the next campaign remained very much alive. His spice and skill caught the eyes of many during the 2017/2018 season. So when the new season came, he was ready to show everyone what he was capable of.
And this season, he did just that. Jadon Sancho registered an impressive 13 goals and 19 assists across 43 appearances in all competitions. These numbers are definitely higher than what any Dortmund fan could have imagine before the start of the season. Right from the start of the campaign, Sancho proved his worth as he already had 4 goals and 6 assists before match-day 10!
Jadon Sancho’s ultimate football abilities didn’t go unheard around Europe. His prowess became acknowledged by some of the most prestigious clubs. on the continent. Teams like Manchester United had a particular interest for the player. It would only take you around 4.2 seconds to witness how all football fans express on social media their desire of having Jadon Sancho in their club. Who can blame them? Our young lad pulled of 113 successful dribbles, close to super-stars, Lionel Messi (134), and Eden Hazard (138) according to Football Whispers.
Luckily for Dortmund, we won’t be off-loading Jadon Sancho for a big sum of cash this summer. Despite all the noise and appeal he has been spreading, he’s not for sale and Borussia Dortmund are simply not interested in listening to any offers. Our best young player is here to stay and who knows, he might as well win this award again in 12 months.
