Borussia Dortmund captain Marco Reus is looking forward to playing with new signings Julian Brandt and Nico Schulz and has set his sights on winning the Bundesliga title next year.

Borussia Dortmund held a nine point lead at the top of the table at one stage of the season, but a poor second half of the campaign saw Bayern Munich take advantage and secure the Bundesliga title by one point on the final day of the season. And Dortmund captain Marco Reus has admitted that he hasn’t yet gotten over the disappointment of his side’s failed title bid.

"Reus told Kicker, “It hurt really, because the chance this time was just unbelievably big, there was a lot more in it for us.”"

Despite Der BVB’s failure to win the league title this season, Reus is positive that the experience of their failed title challenge will help them make sure that they do not repeat the same mistakes next time.

"“You can only work up and process a missed title in a team, and I believe that will help us in the future, which may be the positive thing about it, and everyone has now gained experience,” Reus said. “Our goal must therefore be to stay at the top of the table and then get the title.”"

Reus, who was voted as the Bundesliga player of the year by his fellow pros earlier this week, has also revealed that he is as greedy and determined as ever to win the Meisterschale with Borussia Dortmund.

"“My greed has been extremely pronounced since my first day at BVB, but the closer to the end of my own career, the more intense the focus is on it. Since coming to Dortmund, we’ve been close to it a few times, but in the next two or three years, things have to work out, and I’ll do anything for it.”"

Reus excited to play with Brandt and Schulz

Reus also spoke glowingly about new Borussia Dortmund signings and Germany teammates Julian Brandt and Nico Schulz. Both Brandt and Schulz completed their moves to Borussia Dortmund last month, and Reus has admitted that he is already looking forward to playing with them in Black and Yellow next season.

"“I am glad that we have two top people from the national team, which is good for us, which means even more quality and depth. Especially in the second half of the season we were lacking the necessary power due to some injuries, so I think it’s good and right that the competition gets even bigger.”“If you have big goals – and we do – then you need a lot of top class players. And we will certainly get them with them [Schulz and Brandt].”"

The 30 year old has also revealed that Hans-Joachim Watzke and Michael Zorc spoke with him before the Brandt transfer, and that he is especially excited about linking up with the former Bayer Leverkusen playmaker.

"“I have a very trusting relationship with the BVB officials. As for Julian, Aki Watzke and Michael Zorc had informed me early on the transfer idea. I was really excited!"

"He is a great player, has a good understanding of the game and can take on various positions in offense. The coach will have many options to choose from and we’ll take a step forward.”"
