Winners and losers from Borussia Dortmund’s early transfer business
By Tushar Bahl
Borussia Dortmund have already made a big splash in the transfer market, signing three new players in positions that needed bolstering. Here we take a look at the winners and losers from their transfer dealings.
After coming ever so close to winning the title, Borussia Dortmund are determined to take the fight to Bayern Munich once again next season. The Black and Yellows have already secured the signings of Nico Schulz, Thorgan Hazard and Julian Brandt and the squad is shaping up nicely ahead of next season.
So we’ve picked out the three winners and two losers from Borussia Dortmund’s transfer business so far.
Winner: Michael Zorc
Is there a better sporting director in world football at the moment than Michael Zorc?
The Borussia Dortmund legend showed his brilliant transfer acumen once again by selling Christian Pulisic (with an expiring contract) for 64 million euros in January and replacing him with two established players in Julian Brandt and Thorgan Hazard, as well as signing Nico Schulz for just 77 million euros.
Signing two German internationals and one Belgian international is shrewd and fantastic business for the club and reinforces the team in areas that desperately needed some quality. Borussia Dortmund get two players who are close to reaching their prime, and one who has the potential to be the long term heir to Marco Reus.
Zorc has proven time and time again why he is one of the smartest people in Europe when it comes to transfer dealings, and he has put Borussia Dortmund in a great position in their bid to fight Bayern for the league title next season.
