Loser: Chelsea

Chelsea completed the signing of Christian Pulisic for 64 million euros in January, and that money allowed Borussia Dortmund to not only get an upgrade on him, but to also sign two more quality players. Michael Zorc was able to sign Nico Schulz, Thorgan Hazard and Julian Brandt for a combined fee of just 77 million euros, once again showing just how shrewd he is when it comes to transfer dealings.

Borussia Dortmund’s business makes Chelsea look a bit silly for spending so much on a player who wasn’t a regular, went through a bad season, had just 18 months left on his contract (with no desire to re-sign) and is not an upgrade on their current squad. Granted, Chelsea knew they were going to be placed under a transfer ban so they wanted to make a big signing. But they could have easily spent that money to improve a number of areas like Borussia Dortmund just did.

Now Pulisic could well end up becoming a world class player at Chelsea, he certainly has the potential. But with Hazard gone, he will be under immense pressure right from the off.
