Manuel Akanji

Akanji showed this season that he can be a real leader in this Borussia Dortmund team and was even entrusted with the captain’s armband when Marco Reus and Lukasz Piszczek were not on the pitch. He is one of the most consistent defenders in the team and probably has the highest ceiling of all Dortmund’s young centre backs.

Hummels’ arrival should not have much of an impact on Akanji’s place in the team. The Swiss international’s ball playing skills and pace would actually complement Hummels really well. And the two can form a formidable partnership in the heart of the defense next season, which will hopefully lead Borussia Dortmund to the title.
