Final Thoughts

Having just watched Borussia Dortmund beat Bayern with relative calm and collected play in this year’s Supercup, it is very hard to come away with anything negative to say. As their pre season, and now their victory over the Bavarian giants has highlighted, the team has worked very hard to iron out the deficiencies that plagued them in last years title race, namely on the defensive end of things.

Seeing the Black and Yellows being able to soak up much of Bayern’s attempts to take the lead in the first half, and then come into the second half and control the game the way they did is very exciting and sets a positive precedent for the games to come.

The team, as it stands, seems more than ready to take on the challenge of winning the Bundesliga title, and all the clues point to yet another emphatic title race being on the cards, which is something all Bundesliga fans can begin to get excited about.

Once the likes of Brandt, Hazard, Morey and Hummels return from their short spells on the sidelines, Dortmund will only grow stronger. If their performance in this game is anything to go by, this is a team that is hungry and determined to disrupt the unequal balance Bayern have held over the Bundesliga in the past several seasons, and I for one am very excited to see just how far this team can really push the status quo in Germany this year.
