Another day, another Akanji error

Saying that Manuel Akanji isn’t enjoying the best of seasons would be an understatement. The 24 year old was expected to push on and play a key role in Borussia Dortmund’s title charge. But he has made several high profile errors so far this season, the latest of which nearly cost his team quite dearly.

Going for a header in the build up to Lautaro Martinez’ opener, Akanji completely missed the ball was bullied by the Argentinian striker and tumbled, giving him plenty of space and time to go on and score.

While he recovered well and put in a largely error-free display after that, a defender of Akanji’s calibre and ability should not be making such sloppy mistakes so frequently.

With Akanji looking so unconvincing in almost every game, one has to wonder just how bad Dan Axel Zagadou and Leonardo Balerdi must be in training that they can’t get a look in ahead of the Swiss international.
