Borussia Dortmund’s awful record at the Allianz Arena continued as they were handed a 4-0 thrashing by Bayern Munich.

Another season, another embarrassing defeat at the hands of Bayern Munich away from home. The only thing worse than the score-line is how its becoming such a recurring theme for Borussia Dortmund. Lucien Favre’s side actually went into the game with confidence levels at an all time high. But after 90 minutes of being utterly dominated by the champions, few will believe in the team’s title chances.

Jadon Sancho recovered from the hamstring injury he suffered against Inter Milan, allowing Lucien Favre to name an unchanged line up for the latest instalment of Der Klassiker. Dortmund actually started well and looked decent for about 15 minutes, before Robert Lewandowski found himself in acres of space to head home Benjamin Pavard’s cross, making it 1-0 for Bayern.

Bayern started to control the game after that, leaving Borussia Dortmund helpless with their intense pressing. With Bayern controlling the game, Lucien Favre decided take off Jadon Sancho and replaced him with Raphael Guerreiro in the 36th minute.

The hosts came close to doubling their lead, but the Black and Yellows somehow managed to keep the scoreline at 1-0 heading into the break.

Borussia Dortmund started the second half on the front foot, but the defence was caught on its heels after a swift Bayern counter attack, and Serge Gnabry made it 2-0 in the 49th minute.

Lucien Favre responded by bringing on Marco Reus and Paco Alcacer at the hour mark, but the game had already been lost by then. Alcacer came closest to scoring for Borussia Dortmund but spurned an excellent chance from four yards out. But other than that, the Black and Yellows looked toothless going forward and were limited to just two shots in the 90 minutes.

And Bayern made them pay quite heavily. Lewandowski doubled his tally in the 76th minute after being teed up by Thomas Müller, before Mats Hummels directed the ball into his own net to compound further misery for the Dortmund supporters.

It ended 4-0 in the end with Bayern at their ruthless best, and Borussia Dortmund at their lacklustre worst. Borussia Dortmund have now conceded a combined 24 goals in their last five Bundesliga visits to the Allianz Arena. Calling this record horrific would be an understatement.
