Dortmund dispatch Bayern in the Supercup
Borussia Dortmund got this season off to the best possible start with a 2-0 win over rivals Bayern Munich in the curtain-raising DFL Supercup.
Despite missing a number of key players through injuries, the Black and Yellows were the better team from the get go. They controlled the game well without the ball, defended with great resolve, while being dangerous on the counter attack.
But it took them until the 48th minute to take the lead, and it was Paco Alcacer who struck first. The Spaniard was well found by Jadon Sancho on the edge of the box, and made no mistake with his first time effort.
Sancho turned from provider to scorer 20 minutes later, as he made an excellent run before coolly finishing past Manuel Neuer to seal the victory.
It was an inspired performance by Borussia Dortmund, who sealed their first trophy of the Lucien Favre era with a statement win over their title rivals.
