Julian Brandt finally marks his arrival

Julian Brandt endured a slow start to life at Borussia Dortmund following his spectacular summer move from Bayer Leverkusen. But he announced himself in front of the Westfalenstadion faithful with a game-changing performance in the second half of the DFB Pokal tie against Borussia Mönchengladbach.

After a hard fought 70 minutes during which both teams were closely matched, Marcus Thuram headed home the opener for Gladbach.

But two Julian Brandt goals in the space of three minutes helped Borussia Dortmund turn things around and secure their progress in the next round of the German Cup. The first was a deflected effort from 18 yards out that left Yann Sommer stranded.

Brandt created his own luck for the second though, as he started the move with a fine back-heel, before getting on the end of Thorgan Hazard’s cross to give Borussia Dortmund the lead.

Lucien Favre hurt his hamstring while celebrating, but Julian Brandt finally marked his arrival to Borussia Dortmund with a world class performance.
