Borussia Dortmund currently have six players out on loan until the end of the season, here we will take a look at how the first half of their seasons have gone.

Borussia Dortmund are half-way through their season and while we all know how they have fared, it’s time to check in with the Dortmund players currently on loan this season. There are six Borussia Dortmund loanees all across the world who are in the midst of seasons of their own.

Out of the players currently on loan, there are really only one or two of them that have a chance to be a part of Dortmund’s future plans. Here we will take a look at them along with the other loanees Dortmund will hopefully be able to sell in the summer of 2020.

Sergio Gomez

Sergio Gomez is on loan in the Spanish second division, La Liga 2, with SD Huesca. They are enjoying a solid season, currently sitting in 3rd place of the 22 team league. Sergio Gomez is Dortmund’s most high profile prospect currently on loan in the system. After failing to gain any traction under Favre he went back to Spain for more playing time.

It took a little bit of time for Gomez to earn his coaches trust this season, after his transfer took place he didn’t start any of the first 4 games, making a few substitution appearances over that span. He would then go on to start 10 of the next 16 games as he got settled. While his numbers aren’t overly impressive for the second division, 1 goal and 2 assists in 18 appearances, the main positive here is that he is getting playing time.

Hopefully Gomez is able to turn this experience into something more next year to earn a shot with the Dormtund first team. He had very limited exposure before his loan but whenever he did play in pre-season or friendlies he always impressed.
