Marcel Schmelzer

Marcel Schmelzer has spent his entire career with Borussia Dortmund and ideally he ends it with Borussia Dortmund but that sounds unlikely after his latest interview. Schmelzer confirmed that he had agreed to terms with another club but Borussia Dortmund blocked the move last summer.

Schmelzer has played a very minimal role over the past two seasons under Favre and as big of a personality as he is on the squad it is time to let him go if that’s what he wants at this point. His experience and know-how is important, but Schmelzer is still only 31 and wants to keep playing, which is something he won’t get in Dortmund.

This isn’t what Marcel Schmelzer deserves but it is what is best for him at this point with his chances under Lucien Favre extremely unlikely to improve.
