Borussia Dortmund’s first choice goalkeeper Roman Bürki has revealed that he wants to extend his contract with the club beyond 2021.

With less than 18 months to go before his Borussia Dortmund contract expires, Roman Bürki is keen on extending his stay at the Westfalenstadion. The Swiss shot stopper says that he owes the club a lot, and that he cannot imagine himself playing for a team other than Borussia Dortmund.

In an interview with Kicker during Borussia Dortmund’s training camp in Marbella, Bürki said:

"“I can’t imagine anything else at the moment. I owe a lot to the club. He (Zorc) stood by me even in difficult times. I know what I want and my advisor knows that too.”"

Borussia Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc heaped praise on Bürki after his man of the match performance in the Champions League clash against Slavia Praha last month. Zorc also said that the club will hold talks regarding a new contract with Bürki “at the right time”.

Bürki joined Borussia Dortmund from SC Freiburg in 2015 for a fee of 3.5 million euros. Viewed as the long term replacement for the legendary Roman Weidenfeller, Bürki immediately became the club’s first choice goalkeeper under Thomas Tuchel.

Bürki endured a rough patch of form in the 2017-18 season, during which he made a number of high profile errors which cost the side heavily. But he has recovered superbly, and has found his best form since Lucien Favre’s arrival. The 29 year old has pulled off some incredible saves over the past 18 months, saving his side a number of points.

Bürki has made a total of 189 appearances in all competitions for the Black and Yellows, and the fact that he is so eager to extend his contract is great news for the club
