According to reports in Germany, Erling Haaland does have a release clause in his Borussia Dortmund contract, but it can only be triggered from 2022 onwards.

Borussia Dortmund beat out the likes of Manchester United, Juventus and RB Leipzig to sign Erling Haaland from RB Salzburg for a fee of 20 million euros last month. Since his arrival, there have been several rumours about the details of the transfer and his contract.

And according to SportBILD, the 19 year old does indeed have a release clause in his contract, but it does not become active until the summer of 2022. Haaland signed a four and a half year contract until 2024 with the Black and Yellows.

While SportBILD make no mention about the amount that would trigger the release clause, the Athletic claimed earlier this month that it is ‘substantially higher than the 50 million figure quoted in the English press’.

Borussia Dortmund had originally ruled out putting release clauses in players’ contracts after Bayern Munich triggered a clause to sign Mario Götze in 2013. But it looks like they were forced into breaking that rule in order to sign the highly coveted striker.

"Talking about the Haaland, Borussia Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc said, “Our business card is impressive when it comes to working with young players. Almost all top talents in Europe now know that.”"

In other news, Haaland finally trained with his Borussia Dortmund teammates on the pitch for the first time earlier today in Marbella. The Norwegian international has been dealing with knee problems since his arrival at Dortmund, but it looks like he is nearing a return to full fitness.
