Rumour: Borussia Dortmund have intensified their efforts to sign Lukas Klostermann
By Tushar Bahl
Borussia Dortmund are chasing RB Leipzig right-back Lukas Klostermann as they look to replace the outgoing Lukasz Piszczek and Achraf Hakimi.
With Lukasz Piszczek nearing the end of his career, and Achraf Hakimi likely to return to Real Madrid, signing a new right-back will be one of Borussia Dortmund’s biggest priorities in the summer transfer window. And according to BILD, the Black and Yellows are determined to sign RB Leipzig’s Lukas Klostermann.
According to the report, Borussia Dortmund head coach Lucien Favre is a big fan of the German international, who is also capable of playing at centre-back as well as left-back.
Klostermann’s Leipzig contract expires at the end of next season, and if he decides not to renew, the Bundesliga leaders would like to sell him in the summer. Leipzig want to extend Klostermann’s contract, and will hold talks with him again in February. However it remains to be seen if he would be willing to sign a new deal.
Bayern Munich were also reported to be keen on signing Klostermann, but BILD say that the Bavarians have now cooled their interest. Barcelona are also in the race for his signature.
Borussia Dortmund hold one big advantage over other clubs vying for Klostermann. The 23 year old grew up in Herdecke in the Ruhr area, and admitted last year that he was a Borussia Dortmund fan.
Klostermann has been involved in all but two of RB Leipzig’s games so far this season in all competitions, and has two goals and two assists to his name.
