When the #SanShow is over: Who can Borussia Dortmund buy to eventually replace Jadon Sancho?
With Jadon Sancho looking likely to leave Borussia Dortmund in the summer, we take a look at some of the potential replacement options for the Englishman.
Borussia Dortmund are known for creating some pretty impressive stars in the modern game of football. The likes of Robert Lewandowski, Pierre Emerick Aubameyang, Christian Pulisic and Ilkay Gündoğan all graced the field of the Westfalenstadion for a period in their development before moving on to become household names for large clubs or in other leagues. Die Schwarzgelben have been known to help talented prospects turn into superstars, and Jadon Sancho is no different.
Purchased from Manchester City for a measly 8 million pounds, Sancho has become a true gem in the modern game. He is one of the youngest and brightest talents of a generation, and Dortmund are lucky to have him.
Just with many of the stars that have donned the black and yellow of Borussia before him, however, it is clear to many a Dortmund fan that his time with the club will eventually come to an end. Earlier this season, Sporting Director Michael Zorc openly stated that it was clear that Sancho wouldn’t stay in Dortmund for the next five years. A talent like Sancho was always bound to attract bigger clubs with more financial muscle, and the club is certainly realistic about this.
With his departure at some point in the future a reality, fans and club alike will have to come to terms with, deciphering what sort of player would be an adequate replacement for Sancho has become a bit of a hot topic. To do this, we have to take a look at what Sancho brings to this Dortmund side that will indeed need replacing.
In Sancho, Der BVB have an immensely talented and versatile winger capable of playing on either flank. His creative output has been one of the major driving forces behind much of the attacking prowess Dortmund have shown over the last couple of seasons. In this season alone, Sancho has amassed nine goals and ten assists across 15 Bundesliga appearances.
He is only bested by Bayern Munich’s Thomas Muller in the assists department, making him one of the top two creative forces in the league. In addition to this, Sancho is known for his pace and ability to dribble past players with flair and intelligence, which are also traits that his successor will have to bring to the table.
At any rate, the facts are clear: Sancho will sooner or later depart Borussia Dortmund for pastures new, and it would be ill advised of the club to not have a few options in mind with regards to players that may be able to replace their prolific Englishman when that time comes. As a club that likes to get its transfer business done early, I’m sure Dortmund have a few names in mind, but it never hurts to throw some of our own into contention.
Let us take a look at some of the possible players Borussia Dortmund could look into when the #Sanshow finally comes to a close.
