Rumour: Borussia Dortmund looking for potential Sancho replacement, new number six
By Tushar Bahl
Borussia Dortmund have begun their search for a potential Jadon Sancho replacement, as they prepare for the inevitable departure of the Englishman.
Borussia Dortmund have already been very active in the January transfer window. They announced the signing of Erling Haaland late last month, before selling Julian Weigl to Benfica. While more arrivals are not expected this month, the BVB bosses are already planning for the summer transfer window, with reinforcements being targeted in midfield and attack.
Ruhr Nachrichten say that the Black and Yellows are looking for a ‘robust and powerful’ midfielder who can play as a number six, as well as a winger to replace Jadon Sancho, who is expected to leave in the summer.
With Axel Witsel now 31, it is important that he gets a bit of rest from time to time. So signing a defensive midfielder who can be the long term replacement for the Belgian international will be crucial. And with clubs in both England and Spain circling for Jadon Sancho’s signature, Michael Zorc and co. will want to have a replacement ready before the 19 year old’s departure.
Ruhr Nachrichten also add that Mahmoud Dahoud and Jacob Bruun Larsen could still leave before the winter transfer window closes at the end of the month. Bruun Larsen is attracting interest from Eintracht Frankfurt, while Dahoud has been linked with Hertha Berlin.
Three youngsters who are currently on the periphery of the first team could also get more chances in the second half of the season. Tobias Raschl, Mateu Morey and Leonardo Balerdi will move closer to the first team, Ruhr Nachrichten say.
