Borussia Dortmund: Three players to watch in the second half of the season
By Tushar Bahl
Mats Hummels
Hummels returned to Borussia Dortmund in the summer and made a near perfect start to the season. He put in several world class performances and carried the Dortmund defence at times, leading to calls for him to be restored into the Germany set-up.
But then he scored an own goal in the drubbing against Bayern Munich, and his performances started to take a dip after that. He suffered an injury in the final game of 2019, but is now back to full fitness.
Hummels’ performances will be crucial to Borussia Dortmund’s chances of winning the Bundesliga title this season. Der BVB have some talented young defenders in their ranks, but his ability to lead and organise a defence will be key for the team.
If he can get back to the form we saw before the Bayern game, he can help his teammates cut the defensive errors that blighted Borussia Dortmund so much in the first half of the season.
