Borussia Dortmund kicked off the Rückrunde in typical, Schwarzgelben style; with drama and goals galore, as they beat Augsburg 5-3.

Borussia Dortmund side were up against FC Augsburg at the WWK Arena, and this fixture embodied much of what Dortmund fans have seen all season; a very promising attack and a very lacking defence. The game itself got off to a fast start for Dortmund with chances falling to both captain Marco Reus and talisman Jadon Sancho, however they could not finish off their opportunities.

They were subsequently punished in the 34th minute for not taking their chances when Florian Niederlechner capitalized on their defensive naivety. A further two goals in the opening stages of the second half, one of which was a proper belter from distance courtesy of Augsburg’s Marco Richter, seemed to put the game beyond the Black and Yellows.

A lifeline goal from Julian Brandt began what would end up being an unlikely comeback, but the introduction of Erling Braut Haaland sealed the result, with Dortmund’s new striker scoring an emphatic debut hat-trick. A roller coaster of a game that deserves a closer look, here are some of the key talking points we can take from Dortmund’s clash with Augsburg.
