As Dortmund near the end of the January transfer window, Paco Alcacer has been heavily linked with a move away from the club.

After only a year and a half with Borussia Dortmund the Spanish striker could be on his way back to La Liga. After a great first season, Alcacer has fallen flat halfway through his second season and is no longer a key part in Dortmund’s attack. It’s very disappointing considering the immediate impact he made coming into the squad, scoring 18 goals in 26 games.

After a hot start this season Alcacer has failed to make much of an impact and has been reduced to a rarely used substitute. With playing time harder to come by with the addition of Haaland it makes sense that Alcacer is weighing up a transfer. There have been recent reports of Alcacer looking to find his way back to his homeland with the likes of Valencia, Villarreal, Sevilla and Atletico Madrid all linked to the Dortmund striker.

Cadena SER are reporting that Valencia are the team most likely to to get the deal done, and they have already agreed personal terms with the striker. However, the Spanish side want to sell Rodrigo Moreno to Barcelona before they can sign Alcacer as his replacement.

In turn, Borussia Dortmund could spend the money received from the sale of Alcacer to sign Emre Can from Juventus.

Although he doesn’t have much of a role right now he does provide solid depth up front in case of any injuries or issues with Haaland or Reus. He’s the type of player that given a chance could catch fire once more and make a significant impact down the stretch. In the end it will likely come down to whether or not Borussia Dortmund will be able to recoup the fee they paid for him or more. If they get such an offer, there’s a good chance they may take it.
