Borussia Dortmund striker Paco Alcacer set for Villarreal transfer

Out of favour Borussia Dortmund striker Paco Alcacer is closing in on a return to Spain, with Villarreal set to sign him before Friday’s deadline.
Paco Alcacer hasn’t started or scored for Borussia Dortmund since September. And following the arrival of Erling Haaland, he fell further down the pecking order. The Spaniard has been looking to leave the Black and Yellows all month, and it looks like he is finally about to get his wish.
After seeing a return to former club Valencia fall through earlier this week, the 26 year old is now in line for a move to Villarreal. According to both Mundo Deportivo and Marca, Alcacer will swap the yellow of Borussia Dortmund for that of Villarreal.
The Yellow Submarines are said to be looking for a new striker after the departure of Karl Toko Ekambi to Olympique Lyonnais.
According to Kicker, Borussia Dortmund will receive a transfer fee in the region of the 23 million euros they paid for Alcacer.
If the transfer goes through before Friday’s deadline, Alcacer will leave Borussia Dortmund just 18 months after his arrival from Barcelona, having scored 26 goals in 47 appearances.
While there is no denying Alcacer’s goalscoring prowess, injuries meant that he was never able to hold down on a regular starting spot. Hopefully, he can stay clear of injuries at his new club, and stake a claim for a spot in Luis Enrique’s Spain squad for the upcoming European Championships.
Alcacer’s departure should pave the way for the Black and Yellows to finally complete the signing of Emre Can from Juventus.
