Borussia Dortmund have completed the signing of Juventus midfielder Emre Can on a six month loan deal, with an obligation to buy at the end of the season.

The former Liverpool man arrived in Dortmund to complete his medical and sign his contract earlier today. Can joins Borussia Dortmund on an initial six month loan deal, at the end of which he will sign a four year contract with the club.

Der BVB are paying a loan fee of one million euros, and will be obligated to sign Can outright if certain sporting objectives are met. The fee to make the transfer permanent will be 25 million euros.

Emre Can joined Juventus from Liverpool on a free transfer in 2018. He was a regular in the team last season, but fell out of favour under Maurizio Sarri this season.

With the European Championships on the horizon, the 26 year old was keen to seal a move away from Turin this month. And he will be hoping that the transfer to Dortmund will give him the chance of playing week in, week out.

"Emre Can told Borussia Dortmund’s official website, “I believe that this team has great potential and can win something. I am convinced that I can help them in this.”“I have always had sympathy for this club and can’t wait to play for the first time in front of these fans for whom Borussia Dortmund is known around the world.”"

Reports in Germany say that Borussia Dortmund head coach Lucien Favre plans to use Can, who is primarily a defensive midfielder, as a central defender in a back three. Can has experience of playing in that role from his time at Liverpool.

Can is set to take the place of Julian Weigl, who left to join SL Benfica earlier this month, in the Borussia Dortmund squad.
