Borussia Dortmund made a late splash in the transfer market on deadline day, signing Emre Can from Juventus.

The winter transfer window has finally come to a close, and Borussia Dortmund have done quite a bit of business since the end of December and throughout January. The club has added Erling Braut Haaland, one of Europe’s best attacking talents to their ranks, and we’ve seen the departures of fan favourites Paco Alcacer and Julian Weigl.

In addition, Dortmund have announced the signing of Emre Can from Juventus; a signing that many had speculated would occur for some time now. After several transfer windows of speculation, Dortmund finally sealed a loan move for Can, with an initial fee of 1 million euros until the end of the season.

The club will then have the obligation to buy him for 25 million euros in the summer. Can’s move to Dortmund is one of necessity for both club and player, with the club looking for defensive reinforcements and the player looking for more game time ahead of Euro 2020.

The player has apparently taken a pay cut to join Die Schwarzgelben in an attempt to bolster his chances of getting a spot in Joachim Löw’s Germany side for the competition.

The question is, what does Emre Can bring to Borussia Dortmund that would make the club so keen on signing him this winter? To answer this, let’s take a look at the player’s history and playing style, to see where he might fit in with the Black and Yellows.
