Borussia Dortmund were eliminated at the hands of Werder Bremen in the third round of the DFB Pokal for the second year running, after suffering a 3-2 defeat.

Despite scoring five goals each in their last three games, Borussia Dortmund did not look like getting close to finding the net in the first half tonight. And Werder Bremen took full advantage of their woes by scoring twice in the first half hour to take a healthy lead into the break.

Half time substitute Erling Haaland pulled one back for the Black and Yellows in the 67th minute, but Milot Rashica doubled his side’s advantage just three minutes later.

Gio Reyna made it 3-2 in the 78th minute, but Borussia Dortmund weren’t able to find a late equaliser, and were eliminated from the DFB Pokal.

Here are the player ratings for the Borussia Dortmund players from the game.

Marwin Hitz (5/10)

Hitz came into the team in place of Roman Bürki, who was rested. And the Swiss shot stopper did not have the best of starts, as he parried his shot too close to Davie Selke, allowing him to score on the rebound. He didn’t stand much of a chance with the other two goals.

But he did have a nervy moment when he handled the ball outside the box in the second half. Luckily for him, Josh Sargent was offside in the build-up.
