Lucien Favre’s future has been thrown into doubt again after Borussia Dortmund suffered damaging back to back defeats.

Saturday’s defeat to Bayer Leverkusen led to calls from fans that Lucien Favre should be sacked. While Borussia Dortmund aren’t expected to change their head coach just yet, we examine the pros and cons of sacking Lucien Favre now.

Con: Lack of available options

Sacking Lucien Favre would be the easy part. The hard part would be to find a replacement. There are very few quality head coaches who are available at the moment. Mauricio Pochettino is perhaps the only one who Borussia Dortmund might have a chance of getting. But it is very unlikely that he would join the club at such a precarious stage of the season.

The likes of Massimiliano Allegri, Niko Kovac and Marcelino are also without a job, but they aren’t likely to be the candidates Borussia Dortmund will go for.

Unless Borussia Dortmund can find a quality replacement who is available and willing to join immediately, they would be forced into appointing a caretaker manager until the end of the season. And they simply cannot afford to take that risk, when it is possible that they could yet slip out of the top four.
