Raphael Guerreiro shows his importance again

Raphael Guerreiro has hit a nice purple patch with Dortmund with 3 goals and 2 assists in his last four Bundesliga outings. He is tailor-made for the wing-back role Dortmund have him in. Not an outright defender but also not a pacey winger, he has thrived since the formation change. His technical and creative ability on the ball has been one of the focal points of Dortmund’s attacking success in recent weeks.

Guerreiro nabbed a goal in this game but his biggest contribution was his exceptional run out of the Dortmund half in the build up to Erling Haaland’s goal. He dribbled through three Frankfurt players to open up the field for Dortmund on the counter attack. It was that counter that led to Haaland’s goal and sealed the victory for Dortmund.

He was also impeccable defensively, hardly putting a foot wrong and making some vital tackles and interceptions for the team. It’s now fair to say that the Portuguese international has been one of Dortmund’s most consistent performers this season.
