Borussia Dortmund: Erik ten Hag a potential candidate to replace Lucien Favre

Borussia Dortmund could move for Ajax head coach Erik ten Hag should they decide to sack Lucien Favre at the end of the season, according to reports in Germany.
Lucien Favre was subject to a lot of criticism after back to back defeats to Werder Bremen and Bayer Leverkusen. But it’s fair to say that the Borussia Dortmund head coach has turned things around with wins against Eintracht Frankfurt and Paris St. Germain in the last two games.
But the BVB bosses are said to be planning for a scenario in which Favre does not stay at the club beyond the end of the season. External consultant Matthias Sammer is said to be looking at potential candidates to replace the Swiss tactician.
According to SportBILD, Ajax head coach Erik ten Hag is one of the candidates Sammer is interested in. The report says that Sammer is a big fan of ten Hag, and played a big role in getting him the coaching job at Bayern Munich’s second team early in his career. The two are said to be in contact even today, and ten Hag would be Sammer’s first choice if Favre is sacked.
Fellow Dutchman Mark van Bommel is another name Sammer is considering. The former Bayern Munich midfielder is currently without a job, after being sacked by PSV Eindhoven in December. Van Bommel is also the son-in-law of Bert van Marwijk, who was the head coach at Borussia Dortmund for two years (2004-2006).
Borussia Dortmund’s interest in Niko Kovac is said to have weakened though, as a result of the problems he faced in dealing with star players while at Bayern Munich.
