Following its massive 2-1 win against Paris Saint Germain in the Champions League this past Tuesday, Borussia Dortmund are away to Werder Bremen this Saturday.

Werder Bremen are currently on a four-match losing streak in the Bundesliga, but the recent history between the two sides makes this fixture a big one. Borussia Dortmund lost 3-2 in Bremen less than three weeks ago in the DFB Pokal, making it two years in a row the club’s cup campaign ended at the hands of Werder Bremen.

In between the two cup ties, the sides have met twice in the league, drawing 2-2 on both occasions. The winless run against Bremen makes this weekend a big revenge game, and a chance  to keep the momentum going. Here are some keys to Lucien Favre’s side getting a different result on this visit.

Avoiding the UCL hangover

With the injuries to key players and great form PSG was on going into the UCL clash, Dortmund were the underdogs on Tuesday night. Pulling out the win in those circumstances might make it tough on the players not to overlook a team currently sitting in the relegation zone.

Looking past the PSG hangover on its own, Dortmund has struggled in the games directly following their champions league fixtures all season. In games following its six group stage games, Dortmund only managed to win two of the six league games the following weekend.

With the different runs of form the two sides are in, as well as difference in talent, playing down to its opposition is the biggest threat to Dortmund claiming a win on Saturday.
