Borussia Dortmund’s defense continues to impress

Borussia Dortmund’s leaky defense has been solidified in recent weeks ever since Lukasz Piszczek has slid into the Dortmund back three. His addition has been the change that Dortmund have clearly needed, as they have won three straight games and have only conceded once in those games. The one goal came against PSG as well, they have kept clean sheets in both Bundesliga games since making the change.

Werder Bremen were completely in Dortmund’s control throughout the 90 minutes and rarely threatened. Dortmund’s back line in all fairness weren’t really tested with Werder Bremen’s lethargic build up play and lack of counter attacks. However, to Dortmund’s credit they snuffed out any chances that Bremen had to get into the game either by quickly turning possession back over or making sure they kept their shape and limited them to harmless possession.

If Borussia Dortmund are able to maintain this defensive solidity they will have a real chance at pushing for the title. The constant factor that derailed the first half of the season for Dortmund was their defensive collapses, especially late in games.
