Rumour: Borussia Dortmund make Eduardo Camavinga a priority signing

Borussia Dortmund are reportedly interested in bringing highly rated Stade Rennais midfielder Eduardo Camavinga to the club in the summer.

Camavinga has become one of Europe’s most wanted midfielders with his exceptional performances for Stade Rennais in the French Ligue 1. The 17 year old is attracting the interest of a number of big clubs around Europe including Real Madrid and Manchester City. And according to France Football, the Borussia Dortmund bosses have made signing Camavinga a priority.

Borussia Dortmund are currently locked in the Bundesliga title race, but bosses Hans Joachim Watzke and Michael Zorc are already preparing for next season. They also have a good relationship with their Stade Rennais counterparts, having signed Ousmane Dembele from the French side in 2016.

Borussia Dortmund already have a loaded midfield, featuring Axel Witsel, Emre Can, Thomas Delaney, Mahmoud Dahoud and Julian Brandt. Camavinga has so far been used in a defensive midfield role by Rennais, and he could be the long term replacement to Witsel.

Camavinga is expected to cost his suitors somewhere in the region of 60 million euros, almost double of Borussia Dortmund’s current transfer record. But France Football report that the club are willing to spend that sum on the talented midfielder. They add that the BVB bosses are preparing a strategy similar to the one used to recruit Erling Haaland in winter transfer window.

Camavinga has made a total of 33 appearances so far for Rennais, a remarkable feat for someone who was just 16 at the start of the season. His performances earned him a call-up to the France U-21s squad for the first time last year.
