Back into second with the win

Borussia Dortmund were already two points clear of Gladbach coming into today’s match, but with the Foals still having a game in hand. The win on Saturday helped Lucien Favre’s team move five points clear of their title rivals, and confirms the lead beyond the result of Gladbach’s extra game.

The win also helped Dortmund move above title chasers RB Leipzig, who drew 0-0 with Wolfsburg earlier on Saturday. This puts Dortmund back in the top two for the first time since matchday 10. They are just one point off of Bayern Munich for the time being, as Munich still have to play Augsburg on Sunday.

A loss in today’s contest could have seen Dortmund fall seven points off the top of the table. With nine games left, that is a near impossible deficit to overcome in the remaining months. The win keeps the title race alive, and makes the game against Munich in three match days time that much more important.
