Who is Jonathan David?

The rise of Jonathan David has been one that has been heavily tracked by many over his time in Europe, but his story is one that interests the masses due to his status as a rising star from North America, namely Canada.

Canada hasn’t necessarily been the most famous factory of footballing talent, but with developments in both the US and Canada geared towards increased exposure and infrastructure in the sport ( however imperfect this growth may be), it has led to the discovery of such gems as David himself.

David, born in Brooklyn, New York, started his footballing career with Ottawa based club Gloucester Dragons SA. After impressing for the club, David made the move to Ottawa Gloucester SC, and subsequently move through the ranks of the club, playing for them until 2018.

It would be in 2018 that David would make the move to his current side KAA Gent, making his professional debut for the club in August of that year. Gent would be the platform that has put David on the map, and further on the radar of some of Europe’s top teams, including Dortmund. It doesn’t hurt that Germany seems to be the players top choice in terms of destinations, either.
